GRADUATE / MBA NEWSFoundation Sees Decline in Minority MBA ApplicantsJun 30 2006The number of minority students applying to business schools is declining, according to Nancy Sims, president of the Robert Toigo Foundation, which provides fellowships and career services to minorities to graduate business students.Sims told BusinessWeek, "We're looking at diminishing numbers of minority students who are applying to business school. Particularly looking at women, whose numbers are much lower for us this year than they have been or are desired." Though Sims couldn't cite specific numbers, she's concerned enough to set the foundation onto a more aggressive campaign of reaching out to more students earlier in their academic careers. Her intent is "to cultivate and educate them about the merits of a business degree and of being a part of the Toigo Foundation." Among other things, the foundation teaches students how to seek out mentors and develop networks that can help them rise within their organizations.
